PANAJI: Aldona Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Tuesday hit out at the BJP for including him in a committee to commemorate 75 years of the constitution and accused the party of celebrating the constitution on one hand, and trampling on constitution rights on the other.
“I believe that BJP does not respect the Constitution in letter nor spirit nor respects the Congress party which drafted and adopted the Constitution including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi and seeks to trample upon the fundamental rights of the individuals guaranteed by the Constitution,” Adv Ferreira said.
He said he was taken aback to see his name included in the committee without his consent.
“Am surprised to see my name in the Committee of Goa Government to commemorate “Samvidhan ka Amrit Mahotsav” – the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India: my consent was not taken before I was included in this Committee – nor would it be appropriate for me to accept this offer. I cannot be a part of this Committee and hence decline to be part of it,” he added.
The Congress MLA has been vocal against the ruling BJP often comparing their ideology and methodology to that of the Nazis rule of Germany when it comes to curtailing freedom of expression, targeting opposition leaders and hate directed towards minorities.
