Panaji: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai has issued a strong statement on the Arpora nightclub fire, asserting that the tragedy did not occur by chance but was the consequence of prolonged negligence and systemic failures within the government.

Sardesai said the devastating blaze, which claimed 23 lives, was “allowed to happen” because authorities failed to act despite clear responsibilities. He criticised the administration for being “asleep at the wheel” and accused the government of creating an environment where negligence and corruption were allowed to flourish unchecked.

He remarked that Goa deserved far better than what he described as a “circus of incompetence” and held the government morally accountable for the severity of the incident. Sardesai said the repeated lapses reflect a leadership that has “lost every shred of moral mandate” to continue in office.

The GFP chief added that the tragedy highlights deep underlying governance issues and demanded that responsibility be fixed at all levels to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
