Panaji – Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has moved five Private Member Resolutios for the Sixth Session of the Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly commencing from 2nd February 2024. If the Resolutions are listed by the Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, the same will come up for discussion on Friday 9th February 2024. The Listing will be done on 25th January 2024.

In his first Private Member Resolution on Amendment to Anti-Defection Law, LOP Yuri Alemao has expressed the need of doing away with the concept of “Merger” and hand over adjudication process to a Judge to be designated by the Chief Justices of the respective High Courts in case of State Assemblies and by the Chief Justice of India in case of the Parliament.

Government should find ways and means by exploring all available provisions of the Law to ensure that the Election Commission of India notifies Constituencies for Scheduled Tribes in Goa, stated Yuri Alemao in his second Private Member Resolution.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has moved before the Goa Legislative Assembly to request the Ministry of External Affairs & the Central Government to expedite the process of granting of Dual Citizenship to all Indians and in the meantime grant OCI Status to those Goans who have registered their Birth in Portugal and who do not hold a Portuguese Passport in his third Private Member Resolution.
“Asmitai Dis – Opinion Poll Day” on 16th January every year should be commemorated as Official State Function is the main focus of the Fourth Private Member Resolution. It is a matter of paramount importance to commemorate this Historic Day as we can call ourselves as the elected representative of the state of Goa only because of Opinion Poll, Yuri Alemao has stated in his Resolution.

Although his earlier Private Member Resolution on Widow Discrimination, Widow Abuse & Widow Isolation was discussed in the March Session of the Assembly, the Government did not take any steps to bring in the desired law despite Women & Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane’s Assurance to Yuri Alemao in the said Session. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has once again moved a Resolution to stop Unjust Customs.

The Resolution has a special mention of Usha Naik from Naik-Dicholkar Family who had performed the Wedding Rituals of her daughter Dr. Gautami with Dr. Prathamesh few days back in Goa which is considered to be a pioneering step of a new era.
