After Due Repairs, Public Toilets At Vagator will be Functional: TM Khaunte

Goa, 24th July 2024 – In today’s session of the Goa Assembly 2024, the Honorable Minister of Tourism, Shri. Rohan. A Khaunte, responded to a question raised by the MLA Siolim, Delilah Lobo, focusing on the pressing issue of public toilet facilities in Vagator. He assured the house that the ongoing repairs will be completed within a month’s time.

During the discussion, the Minister highlighted the government’s immediate actions and future plans to address the condition of the toilets located in Vagator. The facilities, currently undergoing temporary repairs, have been prioritized to ensure they meet public health and sanitation standards.

The Minister confirmed that a recent inspection of the Sulabh toilet facility was done on 14th July 2024 to review the condition of the toilets. Acknowledging the MLA’s ongoing advocacy for accessible public toilets in Vagator. Shri. Khaunte contended that the existing three toilets, located 500 meters from the beach, have been deemed “impractical” for tourists due to their distance.

To further promote transparency and prevent overcharging, charges will be displayed outside the toilets boldly as suggested by Lobo. Additionally any instances of overcharging can be reported to the helpline at 1364, and the Department of Tourism will take immediate action to resolve such issues.

The Minister has given a firm assurance that these measures will be implemented swiftly, effectively and emphasized that the welfare of the public and the enhancement of tourism infrastructure remain top priorities. The Department of Tourism encourages the public to report any discrepancies and assures that all complaints will be addressed promptly to maintain the highest standards of public service.
