The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Goa, indicating severe weather conditions in the region. According to the Meteorological Centre in Goa, heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm/hr accompanied by strong surface winds gusting between 40-50 km/h is expected to occur across North and South Goa.
The alert was issued at 3:00 PM on July 9, 2024, and is valid until 6:00 PM the same day. At 2:42 PM, clouds were observed over Pernem, Bicholim, Bardez, Tiswadi, and Dharbandora talukas, as well as the Arabian Sea. The IMD has warned that other talukas could also be affected as the clouds are developing and moving in a southeast direction.
Residents are advised to avoid areas prone to waterlogging, check for traffic congestion before traveling, and stay in secure structures.
