New Delhi, March 18, 2025:
Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade today expressed serious concerns in Parliament over the surge in spam calls, phishing scams, and data privacy breaches impacting millions across India.

Addressing the House, Shri Tanavade highlighted how fraudsters increasingly exploit platforms like WhatsApp, social media, and fake websites to deceive unsuspecting citizens. He warned that individuals often receive fraudulent calls and messages from scammers posing as banks, government agencies, or law enforcement, resulting in significant financial losses.

“The rise in unsolicited calls and phishing attempts is a direct threat to citizens’ privacy, security, and finances. Senior citizens and rural populations, who may not be well-versed in digital technology, are particularly vulnerable,” he remarked.

Shri Tanavade further underscored the misuse of personal data, pointing to illegal data harvesting and unauthorized sales by third-party brokers. Calling for immediate government action, he stressed the need for stricter laws, enhanced digital security measures, and stringent penalties to curb such activities.

“The right to privacy is fundamental. It is the government’s duty to protect citizens from data misuse and fraudulent schemes,” he stated.

He also noted a concerning rise in cyber fraud cases in Goa, where many residents have fallen prey to scams. Shri Tanavade urged the government to strengthen regulations, improve cybersecurity infrastructure, and launch awareness campaigns to educate citizens on identifying and avoiding fraud.

The MP’s call for decisive action comes as digital scams continue to escalate, posing a growing challenge to online safety nationwide.
