Margao :- The 11th annual Shri Krishna Vijaiutsov was organised with pomp by the Fatorda Yuva Shakti on 30th November at Osia Ground in Fatorda, an event proudly supported by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. This festival that celebrates the unity and spirit of Diwali, has become an important day in Fatorda’s cultural calendar. Thirty groups showcased, and competed with, their rendition of the battle between Lord Krishna and the demon Narkasur, with the winner of the competition declared as Gajajanan Yuvak Mandal. Nageshi Youth Club and Sai Yuvak Mandal won the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Addressing the crowd of more than 15000 people, Vijai Sardesai recalled how, 11 years ago, the then BJP government disrupted this celebration, with police action curtailing the festivities despite acclaimed actor Om Puri being the chief guest. Sardesai noted: “There’s no point in removing the Narkasur (demon) effigies if we allow Narkasur to live in our hearts.” He added that those with a divisive mentality are the ones driving our society apart, emphasizing the importance of unity to protect Goenkarpon (Goan identity). “Only by eradicating the Narkasurs within our society can we truly prosper and develop,” he added.

Reflecting on the deeper message of Diwali, Sardesai stated that we must eliminate societal Narkasurs to progress and enjoy true celebrations. He criticized the Goa government for failing to address issues of corruption, unemployment, and governance. Sardesai said: “Our Chief Minister talks about corruption as Narkasur, but Goans are aware who is truly responsible for the state’s problems; who is selling government jobs; and who’s involved in scams. These are the Narkasurs that need to be eradicated”.

Highlighting the high unemployment rate in Goa, Sardesai condemned the government’s stance on job scarcity for Goans and criticized the proposed scrapping of the Staff Selection Commission, which plays a crucial role in fair employment opportunities. “Why should we tolerate a government that fails to provide jobs to our youth?” Sardesai asked, adding, “Goans are disillusioned, and if this government persists, change will come in the next state election.”

Sardesai concluded by appealing to Goa’s patron deity, Dambab, for unity, wisdom, and prosperity for Goans across communities. “May we remain united and strive for a prosperous future,” he expressed, also extending his gratitude to all those who contributed to the event’s success. Sardesai reaffirmed his commitment to preserving Goan traditions, noting that Fatorda Yuva Shakti will continue to organize cultural events such as Shigmo and Carnival to celebrate Goan heritage.

Wishing all Goans a Happy Diwali, Sardesai pledged his ongoing support for preserving Fatorda’s cultural legacy.
