Panaji: The meteorological department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Goa from June 2 (Sunday) to June 5 (Thursday). The alert comes as heat wave conditions are predicted to continue, with maximum temperatures fluctuating between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius until June 8.
On Sunday, Panaji recorded the highest temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius. The Met office also noted the possibility of light showers until June 8.
Arrival of Southwest Monsoon
The Southwest Monsoon has already reached parts of Lakshadweep, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and the Rayalaseema region. The Met Office predicts that the monsoon will reach the Andhra coast and the rest of Karnataka and Rayalaseema within the next two days.
Heatwave Conditions Across the Country
Elsewhere in the country, heat wave conditions are likely to worsen in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. The Meteorological Department has reported multiple deaths due to severe heatwave conditions, which are expected to persist in the coming days.
In contrast, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and West Bengal in the east, as well as southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, are expected to experience rain over the next two days, according to the Met office.
