Panaji: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Working President Mahesh Nadar has expressed concern over law and order issues, with miscreants threatening people at gunpoint and involvement of youths in crime.
Nadir was addressing a press conference in Congress House-Panaji on Friday. State Social Media Cordinator Saquib Shaikh and Youth congress committee member Valent Barbosa were also present.
Citing the case of one of the educated accused person in murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, who succumbed to the allure of social media by seeing influence of gangsters, Nadar said that youths should be guided to take the correct path.
“Media reports say that there is involvement of youth’s in house breaking incidents that took place in Goa. This is happening because they don’t have employment. Youths are frustrated and taking such steps of crime,” Nadar said.
He said that there are many youths who are educated but unemployed as the government has failed to create jobs.
“Youths are fed up with the promises of the BJP government, who during every election assure to create jobs and then they turn Nelson’s eye over it. GST has killed the small businesses, wherein youths are losing jobs and as they fail to get new jobs, they then take such steps in frustration,” he said.
“Goa’s unemployment rate has been higher than the national average for the last many months. But the government is doing nothing. It is only boasting of creating jobs in the hospitality sector, which is also not coming into reality,” he said.
Nadar said that the increase in criminal activities involving unemployed youths is a big concern that highlights the government’s failure to address unemployment and prevention issues.
“It is also evident that our youths are venturing into drug peddling, only because they have no option. Drugs have reached to every nook and corner of Goa. This is also destroying the future of our youths,” Nadar pointed out.
He said that the incident of threatening local on gunpoint at Aquem-Margao is a big concern towards the law and order situation. “It feels like Goa has been turned into Goonda Raj by the BJP government. Hence, criminals without fear of law are roaming with arms,” he said.
