Jewellery Heist at Mapusa Market Solved, Two Arrested and Stolen Property Recovered

Mapusa Police have successfully cracked a major jewellery theft case reported on September 23, 2024. The crime was registered as Mapusa Police Station Crime No. 141/2024 under sections 331(4), 305(a) read with 3(5) of the BNS Act 2023, following a complaint by Chandramohan Vithal Nasnodkar, a 72-year-old businessman residing in Dangui Colony, Mapusa, Bardez, Goa.

The incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. on September 22 and 3:00 a.m. on September 23, when unknown persons broke into Nasnodkar’s jewellery shop, “Nasnodkar Jewellers” in Mapusa Municipal Market. The accused gained entry by breaking the ventilator grills and loft wall of the shop, escaping with a substantial quantity of gold jewellery, silver items, a gold wristwatch, and other valuables worth crores of rupees.

A special investigation team was quickly formed under the leadership of Dy. SP Sandesh Chodankar and PI Nikhil Palekar. The team, comprising PSI Yeshwant Mandrekar, PSI Ajay Dhuri, PSI Bablo Parab, and other officers, tracked the suspects using human and technical intelligence. On September 24, the team apprehended two accused, Harji Chouhan (26) and Bhawani Singh (18), both from Krishnapura, Kali Kankar, Ajmer, Rajasthan, along with two juveniles in conflict with the law (CCLs), near Kudal Railway Station in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra.

A significant portion of the stolen gold and silver jewellery was recovered from the suspects. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of SDPO Sandesh Chodankar and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
