Panaji: INDIA bloc leaders on Monday alleged that health services in the state have collapsed and hence people should think twice before they cast their vote.
INDIA bloc Goa spokesperson Manisha Usgaonkar (INC), Adv Ashma Bi (GFP) and Cecille Rodrigues (AAP), addressed a joint press conference at Congress House and said that the BJP government has failed to provide facilities in health centres.
Ashma Bi said that the BJP government boasts of a district hospital in Fatorda, but it lacks in facilities.
“This hospital has become like an attendance room for patients. They are shifted to Goa Medical College as there are no facilities. Government has failed to make the ICU fully functional. There is a shortage of staff,” she said.
“We are not getting basic services properly. Government has completely failed in the health area,” Ashma said.
Manisha Usgaonkar said that BJP has fully concentrated on corruption rather than providing facilities.
“Recently Housekeeping scam in the health department has taken place, wherein lowest bidder is disqualified and contract given to highest bidder. This will be a loss to the state. When the lowest bidder challenged it in the High Court, the government still tried to do corruption and later challenged the order of HC in Supreme Court,” Usgaonkar said, adding the lowest bid was placed by a BJP leader, who took the government to court.
“In past we have seen ventilator scams and even former governor Satyapal Malik had exposed the scam in the health department. But no action is taken, because they are in power,” She said.
Cecille Rodrigues said that Sub District Hospital in Ponda is also in a sorry state as there are no staff.
“There are no surgeons and lifts are not working. This hospital lacks facilities,” she said.
“As government failed to provide facilities at sub district hospitals and health centres, accidental cases are referred to Goa Medical College, whose casualty gets over burdened,” she said.
She said that the BJP government completely failed during COVID pandemic and hence many people died. “Health Minister Vishwajit Rane doesn’t take responsibility. Don’t elect persons who can’t deliver. Vote for INDIA alliance,” Rodrigues appealed.
