The Goa Forward Party, led by its President Vijai Sardesai, has recently brought critical governance issues to the attention of the Honourable Governor of Goa, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai. Accompanied by Vice President Dilip Prabhudesai, Adv. Ashma, General Secretary Durgadas Kamat, and North Goa District President Deepak Kalangutkar, the delegation submitted a detailed letter demanding urgent intervention on several important matters that compromise the welfare and safety of Goan citizens.

The delegation highlighted the alarming decline in administrative efficiency and ethical governance within the state, citing the mismanagement and substandard execution of infrastructure projects, as well as violations of citizens’ rights and safety. One of the major concerns raised was the failure of the Smart City project in Panjim. Despite an investment of over Rs. 1100 crores, the project has been plagued by delays and poor-quality workmanship, leading to severe flooding and infrastructural collapses. The recent collapse of a concrete drainage system at Taad-Maad near Caculo Mall, attributed to substandard workmanship and negligence, exemplifies the severity of the problem. The Goa Forward Party has demanded a criminal probe, and an FIR against the contractor responsible, urging immediate and decisive action to prevent further damage, and to ensure public safety.

Another significant issue raised was the renovation scandal of the Kala Academy, Goa’s premier arts and culture institution. The renovations, which cost approximately Rs. 80 crores, have been marred by shoddy workmanship and lack of oversight, leading to incidents such as a leaking roof during a performance and frequent power failures. The Goa Forward Party has exposed this scam and called for those responsible to be held accountable for the misuse of public funds.

Furthermore, the delegation expressed grave concern over recent amendments to the state’s excise laws, allowing new bars and liquor stores to operate within one hundred meters of educational and religious institutions at twice the usual license fee. This policy, they argue, prioritizes revenue generation over the well-being and moral fabric of society, potentially increasing the risk of underage drinking and creating an unsafe environment for students and communities.

These issues that collectively illustrate a pattern of administrative failure and lack of accountability, have prompted the Goa Forward Party to call for an independent audit of the Smart City projects and Kala Academy renovations. They also urge a reassessment of the recent excise law amendments to prevent potential harm to educational and religious institutions.

The Goa Forward Party intends to raise these concerns in the forthcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to shed light on the improper governance and lack of accountability prevalent in the current state government. The delegation has earnestly requested the Governor’s prompt intervention to ensure justice, transparency, and the welfare of Goan citizens. The Goa Forward Party remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of the people of Goa and preventing the misuse of public funds.
