Goa Discovers New Minor Mineral – Calcium Bentonite

Panaji: The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa has officially handed over the Lease Deed to M/s Nathurmal Eco Minerals Private Limited for the newly discovered minor mineral, Calcium Bentonite (non-swelling). Also known as Multani Mitti or Fullers Earth, Calcium Bentonite has a wide range of applications in various industries such as Ayurvedic preparations, edible oils, wine making, health and wellness, construction, waste management, agriculture, and animal feed.

This recent discovery adds to the growing list of minor minerals found in Goa. It is worth mentioning that the government had previously signed a lease deed with the same company in March 2022 for another newly discovered minor mineral in the state, namely Dolomite.

The exploration and identification of new minerals in Goa contribute to the state’s economic growth and diversification. The availability of Calcium Bentonite opens up opportunities for industries to harness its potential in different sectors. The government’s proactive approach in leasing these minerals to reputed companies ensures responsible and sustainable extraction practices.
