PANAJI: Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Wednesday demanded a new building for the Old Goa Police Station and the strengthening of staff at what he said was a crucial police station.

Speaking during the discussion on demands for grants to the Home Department, Rajesh said: “The staff at the Old Goa police station are less. We need at least 60-70 staff there especially in view of the exposition and the fact that there are many places of tourist importance. The police also have a shortage of vehicles.”

He demanded that the government expedite the setting up of a new building for the police station at another location while the present location be turned into a market complex.

Speaking on the issue of land grabbing, Faldessai sought action against one Rohan Harmalkar who he said was involved in several cases of land grab including in the constituency as well as in places like Arpora. He said there are more than five cases of land grab against the said Harmalkar, who he said he would expose with documents that he would hand over to the Chief Minister.

Faldessai also demanded more vehicles for the Fire Station at Old Goa, where he said there was only one vehicle to cover a large area.

On the issue of the Public Works Department, Faldessai while thanking the Chief Minister for sanctioning the bridges for Cumbarjua and St Estevam sought that a bridge be built for the Vanxim and Divar islands and that the proposals be expedited. “You need to give this issue some attention,” he said.

He also demanded speed breakers in Divar and Gandaulim.
