Mapusa – The CT scan machine at the North District Hospital in Mapusa has been non-functional for the past three months, forcing patients to travel to GMC hospital in Bambolim for scans.

Impact on Patients

With the CT scan service disrupted, 20-30 patients per day are inconvenienced, having to seek scans elsewhere. The prolonged downtime of the CT machine, crucial for diagnosing injuries and ailments, has caused frustration among patients and their families.

Calls for Immediate Action

Social activist Baban Kandolkar emphasized the urgency of repairing or replacing the CT scan machine to alleviate patient distress. Hospital sources indicate plans to purchase a new machine, but approval is pending.

Hospital Staff’s Perspective

A doctor at the North Goa District Hospital confirmed that the CT scan machine has had issues previously, but this time the problem is more severe. The maintenance agency has identified the fault, and government approval is required to fund the repairs.

Ambulance Service Also Affected

The hospital is further strained by the malfunction of one of its two ambulances, which has been out of service for two months. This leaves only one operational ambulance, leading to delays in patient transportation. Sources suggest that two additional ambulances are needed to adequately serve the hospital’s daily patient load.
